The Propeller Club-Port of Tampa actively works to foster the growth of the next generation of maritime employees and leaders in Tampa Bay.

Maritime Education—

What is Maritime?

The maritime industry is a global network of businesses moving goods and passengers by sea—from shipping and ports to logistics, shipbuilding, and maritime law. It powers international trade, carrying over 90% of the world’s goods and supporting global supply chains & economies.

Our philosophy

What is the Education Committee?

Our education committee has the exciting opportunity to actively champion the growth of the next generation of maritime employees and leaders. Since 2011, our Education Committee has collaborated with the Hillsborough County Public School system through its popular maritime education program at Jefferson High School.

In the program, students are able to participate in activities that prepare them for jobs in the maritime industry, and further education at technical schools, community colleges, or beyond.

Meaningful Work—

A Call to the Next Generation

For students interested in marine trades, engineering, or hands-on maritime work, marine construction offers a rewarding path. The work is meaningful, the environment is ever-changing, and the demand is strong. With the right education and training, the next generation can help shape the future of our coasts, ports, and waterways—while building a career that is exciting, challenging, and full of purpose.

“Thought is the wind, knowledge the sail, and mankind the vessel.”

Education

Our members designed an unapparelled curriculum for the State-approved course “Maritime Technology (8404100)”.

The curriculum reflects the diversity of the Propeller Club’s businesses and cultivates understanding from a variety of perspectives.

Members are also working on a college program to provide another option to high school students as well as incumbent workers to expand their knowledge.

Club members also participate in the Annual Maritime Career Expo, held at Jefferson High School. This expo provides members opportunities to meet students and provide insight into their work within the maritime industry.
